About SOS-Hawaii

System Optimization and Support is an engineering and consulting company based in Honolulu, HI. Its primary focus is to ease the procurement, installation, and optimization of technology services for its customers, and to support them once the implementation process is complete. SOS Hawaii partners with the following companies: Pure Storage, Nimble Storage, Dell, IBM, VmWare, Microsoft, Citrix, Symantec and many others. SOS sells these products and more in Hawaii and on the West Coast of the United States to commercial, state and local, and federal markets.

SOS consults on technology decisions ranging from the hardware procurement of Servers (Blades), Storage systems (All Flash and Hybrid SAN, NAS, and ISCSI/FC), Virtualization Software (Microsoft-Hyper-V, VmWare, Citrix), Network Infrastructure (Juniper, Brocade and HP Networking), Security Products (Palo Alto, Bluecoat, Beyondtrust, Juniper SRX), Back-up and Disaster Recovery from our cloud at www.supernap.com to the implementation and integration of these technologies into new and existing infrastructures once purchased. Services provided center around the technologies above and to the support of these technologies after the initial implementation.

SOS brings more than 35 years of Information Technology experience to the table. Its current focus is on the commercial market where SOS has been a successful start-up since 10/2009. SOS’s customers are some of the largest corporations in Hawaii all whom are reference able and willing to provide glowing endorsements of its business practices. SOS has as of June 1, 2011 secured its first Federal contract for high level cleared work, and hopes to be able to establish some performance metrics to assist with attaining future larger contracts based on the its Native Hawaiian Owned classification. In summary, SOS puts the “value” in Value Added Reseller.

Meet the Team

Curtis K. Oguma

A native Hawaiian and U.S. Navy (USS Ulysses S. Grant) veteran, Curtis brings 25 years of IT experience to the company. In 2007, with 22 years under his belt, he retired early from Hewlett-Packard. Too young to fully enjoy the benefits of retirement, Curtis worked with various HP Value Added Resellers in Hawaii before deciding to form this partnership with Thomas.

Throughout his career he has provided consultation, service, and support to many of Hawaii’s enterprise customers such as: PACAF, USARPAC, State of Hawaii Dept. of Education (DOE), State of Hawaii Dept. of Health (DOH), State of Hawaii Information & Communications Services Division, Le Jardin Academy, Hawaii Pacific Health, Pharmacare, DTRIC Insurance, Honolulu Community College, and the Kauai Island Utility Coop. For these accounts, Oguma is still considered a Trusted Advisor.

He is certified and accredited in many IT disciplines. Nationally he is one of a few HP Master ASE (Accredited Systems Engineer) and SAN (Storage Area Network) Solution Architects. He is the only one in Hawaii to acquire this prestigious and hard earned title for 2008/09. Other certifications include: VMware Certified Professional, Lefthand Accredited Implementation Specialist (the only one in the State of Hawaii), Microsoft MCSE, HP Accredited Systems Engineer (Proliant), CISCO CCNA, Pure Storage and HPUX Certified System Administrator.

Thomas Matthews

Director of Sales and Marketing, Thomas is responsible for business operations and partner relations.

As a graduate of University of Florida’s College of Journalism & Communications with a Minor in Business Administration in 1996 he financed his move to Hawaii from Florida when he worked as a loan officer with First Financial Mortgage Services. Upon settling on Oahu, he was a Supervisor for UV Rays/Beach Activities of Maui in charge of sales, hiring, scheduling and overseeing the Sheraton Waikiki Shop, as well as the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel location. As an office manager with Kiewet Pacific Co., Matthews was charged with cost reporting, auditing, accounting, and payroll in overseeing two $14-million construction projects for the State of Hawaii. Wanting something more challenging he pursued a sales career in the IT industry. He worked as an Account Manager with GST Telcom Hawaii, SystemMetrics Corporation and Century Computers, Inc. where he continually achieved nearly 200% of his sales quotas all the while expanding his knowledge of the industry.

Matthews IT experience is very well rounded after having been in the industry for 15 years and includes hardware, software, networking, colocation facilities, security products, wireless transport as well as IP Provider.

Together they are a dymanic duo-an overachieving sales executive and a highly qualified IT expert with a loyal customer base. What does this mean? It means SoS-Hawaii sales force is accredited and or certified to sell everything these manufacturers have to offer. SoS-Hawaii leverages these relationships to provide customers a best-in-class offering. From price to implementation customer questions are expected. It is SoS-Hawaii’s intention to answer with performance.
